After a kick-off event in August 2024 with some 35 artists, followed by the December Presentation Series – an initiative to bring new art trends and practices to life in a more short format – the Planned Accidents project, initiated and directed by the artist Rafael, returns with a special edition of his Presentation Series, hosted by the cultural space KOTE, in Seoul.
Entitled Transcendence, in tribute to Philippe Franck, this edition will propose performances and exhibitions (on site) in situ, while integrating a network-marathon work, 24H/24 Paradise, designed and orchestrated by Marc Veyrat and his collective “la Société i Matériel” in partnership with Transcultures. Streamed for 24 hours, this creation will be visible both on the web and on the big screen in the KOTE space.
Capital in full effervescence, Seoul is distinguished by its artistic dynamism and curiosity for experimental approaches and sensibilities from elsewhere. Planned Accident resolutely fits into this dynamic by offering hybrid formats, open to the unexpected and all experiments, and by promoting crosses between disciplines, cultures and temporalities. Through this second special edition, the festival continues its exploration of areas of friction and resonance between contemporary artistic practices, technologies and collective imaginaries.
By integrating the 24H/24 Paradise project from Europe and the Web, the initiative aims to forge a lasting and ambitious link between the international art scene and that of Seoul. This continuous dialogue will strengthen an already lively cultural interaction between creators from all walks of life, making Seoul a true epicenter of this international effervescence.

PLANNED ACCIDENTS
/// PLANNED ACCIDENTS 계획된 사고 is a unifying, convivial, and forward-looking project initiated by the artist Rafael, bringing together artists, researchers, curators, and thinkers. This new series of events aims to identify emerging trends and artistic practices by encouraging their intersections and encounters with diverse audiences.
/// PLANNED ACCIDENTS is like a Korean garden: each element has its own aesthetic specificity and brings together different structures within the same space — a seemingly chaotic yet surprisingly organized whole.
/// PLANNED ACCIDENTS takes shape as a contextual and nomadic event that weaves together meetings/talks, performances/concerts, screenings, installations, and other hybrid forms.
24H/24 Paradise
There exist, right in the heart of the Bering Strait, two islands nicknamed Yesterday and Tomorrow Island. 3 km apart, separated by two continents, two countries and… arbitrarily, 24 hours. To open such an interval through Art is to open a breach, to surf in balance along the crestline between two pages, to pass through the steamroller of the wave, to question all possibilities, all powers. It is perhaps to will and imagine ourselves into new modes of representation, of world-rendering, of truth-transmission and society-making — our own beliefs, our longings for Sur/Vival.
It is within these typologies of poTENTIAL eSPACEs — stretched, scattered, and made available — which seem so distant yet feel so close, that we will be connected, for 24 hours, via Internet, to KOTE in Seoul, South Korea. And it is there, and here, that we will imagine, share, and celebrate — with them, with ourselves, surrounded and accompanied by PLANNED ACCIDENTS, Transcultures, and the i Material Society — our utopias and our In/Spirations, our memories, our love affairs with Art, our works — finished or still becoming — in short, everything that irrationally ignited and irradiated Philippe Franck / Paradise Now, and perhaps made him, for some, utterly irresistible in the manner of speaking. Forever shapeshifting into an electric snowpiercing locomotive. Into a trans/sonic breath…
The Société i Matériel is setting up a Discord server that will allow the public to attend the event.
KOTE Séoul
Located in the heart of Insadong, KOTE is a unique cultural space that blends traditional Korean heritage with contemporary creativity.
A true artistic hub, it hosts exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, and innovative cultural events within an architecture that merges modern design and historical elements. Its diverse spaces—galleries, cafés, performance venues—invite exploration and connection, creating a warm and inspiring atmosphere.
Vibrant and dynamic, KOTE serves as a meeting point for local and international artists, offering fertile ground for experimentation and cultural exchange.
Rafael Sanchez (Be/Kr)
Rafael, an artist of Spanish origin working between his native Belgium and South Korea, develops a personal videographic and multimedia work that gives an important place to the sound dynamics but also to the imaginary participation of the spectator.
It is at the same time the origin of several events dedicated to experimental arts. In addition to the ALEA and DENOIZE festivals, he launched in 2024, in the dynamic and welcoming East Atelier Gallery in Seoul, Unit Academia (co-produced by Transcultures) and PLANNED ACCIDENT, which reconnect with the salon spirit of the 1930s.
These groundbreaking events are real platforms of visibility and meeting for the Korean alternative art scene and which is also opening up internationally (France, Belgium, Japan…).
Société i Matériel / Marc Veyrat (Fr/Int)
Founded in 2000 by artist-researcher Marc Veyrat, La Société i Matériel is a fluid, multidisciplinary art collective that brings together visual artists, musicians, programmers, and poets around interdisciplinary practices. It explores contemporary dynamics of the visual, media, and digital realms, drawing on collaboration, experimentation with hypermedia technologies, and critical engagement with information flows.
Its projects—often immersive and interactive—transform data from our digital environment into artistic works. Among its standout creations are JUNK-i S-O+O-S perfusion, VOX ePŒTIC, #MetaversCiTy, as well as T-O+O-T_J-O+O-R and social i-LIMITED. The collective questions the conditions of transmission, digital materiality, and network structures, while creatively repurposing media streams in a process that is both aesthetic and critical.
La Société i Matériel thus positions itself within a deeper reflection on the impact of digital technologies on our perception of reality and on the circulation of forms and content in the age of hyperconnection.
Artist, Agrégé, and Full Professor (HDR) in Art Sciences; Head of the Hypermedia Communication Department at the University of Savoie Mont-Blanc, and researcher at the CiTu Paragraphe Laboratory — University of Paris 8; Associate Researcher at the UNESCO Chair / ITEN (Innovation, Transmission, Digital Publishing).
His research focuses on the complexity of textual and visual information design in digital, visual, and contemporary arts; on networking practices and information strategies used as artistic material — particularly within Mixed Reality (XR) environments and through social networks or the web.
