Philippe Franck – Founder and Artistic Director until 2025

Art historian, cultural critic and designer, sound and intermedia creator/producer, Philippe Franck (Fr/Be) was the director of Transcultures, Center for Digital and Sound Cultures, which he founded in 1996. He passed away on January 27, 2025, at the age of 61.

He was also the founder and artistic director of the international sound arts festival City Sonic (since 2003) and the Transnumeriques digital cultures biennale (since 2005) in the Federation Wallonia-Brussels. Since 2018, he had been General Director of the international network European Pepinieres of Creation, and since 2021, a member of the research group CiTu Paragraphe in Information and Communication Sciences and Digital Humanities at Université Paris 8.

He curated numerous events and exhibitions in contemporary, sound, hybrid and digital arts across Europe and internationally. He also taught image analysis, media and multimedia theory at the École Supérieure des Arts Saint-Luc (Brussels), sound creation at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, and at Arts2 (Mons).
