Contemporary music

Composer, conductor, and cellist, holding a master’s degree in philosophy and literature, he has conducted over 350 world premieres of contemporary music and recorded more than 100 award-winning albums. With the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, he has recorded complete works for strings by Scelsi, Lutoslawski, and Rogister, and as a cellist, performed sonatas by Lekeu, Debussy, and Fauré with pianist Boyan Vodenitcharov. His compositions span symphonic, chamber, vocal, and electronic music, including the opera Kilda, premiered at the opening of the 2009 Edinburgh Festival. He has also written for theatre, dance, film, fashion, and collaborated with more than 90 artists across genres such as chanson, jazz, electronic, and experimental music.

Since 1997, he has directed the contemporary music ensemble Musiques Nouvelles in Mons, within MARS (Mons Arts de la Scène), and in 2015 conceived Arsonic, a house of listening that also hosts the Chapel of Silence. His works are published by Le Chant du Monde/Harmonia Mundi (The Present’s Presents, Prophètes) and Cypres (O Clock, Requiems). He teaches musical aesthetics at INSAS, has been a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium since 2021, and leads the “Ateliers du Silence,” workshops combining sound, breath, and contemplative listening, rooted in his long-standing meditation practice.

He sits on the Board of Transcultures, overseeing artistic direction.
