Computer Art and Digital Design in the Age of Generative AI

Initiated in Paris in 2002 by Khaldoun Zreik/laboratory CiTU Paragraphe-University Paris 8, the Computer Art Congress (CAC) is an interdisciplinary academic event that investigates art and science from various perspectives. CAC.8 particularly emphasizes the role of minority and underrepresented communities in shaping the arts at local and regional levels. It examines collaborative practices among a wide range of actors—artists, designers, curators, critics, engineers, and more—to understand the networks supporting creative production.

CAC also focuses on the materiality and methods in art creation, exploring how actors engage with hardware, software, and scientific tools to generate images, experiences, and datasets. This year’s theme encourages sustainable approaches and poses questions about the future of materials in art preservation. Finally, CAC considers intellectual and academic contributions to understanding contemporary issues, like the influence of AI on thought processes, the cultural shifts due to generative media, and the role of biases in creative work. CAC.8 thus invites participants to reflect on how these trends influence both culture and artistic traditions.

CAC8 also presents artistic works at the University of La Plata during the duration of the conference, including projects by Philippe Franck, Marc Veyrat and Philippe Boisnard supported by Transcultures and the European Pepinieres of Creation.
