03 > 07.09.2024 | “Sonic Shower” – Isa*Belle (Fr/Be) | Kote Art Festival 2024 (Seoul – Kr)

For the opening of its September festival, Kote invites Transcultures and the European Pépinières de Création to present a sound performance: Isa*Belle’s “Sonic Shower”, never before presented in South East Asia.

Since 2004, Isa*Belle has been developing a sonic/sensory project which can take the form of installations or participatory performances. For the Kote Art Festival 2024, Isa*Belle offers an audio-sensitive performance where she makes resonate a large specific Tibetan bowl made of 7 metals around the head of a standing participant. The vibration then spreads throughout the body like in a sonic shower. She also plays with smaller singing bowls and uses a selection of oxygenating and regenerating essential oils, Tibetan cymbals, a gong and other vibratory objects.

The experience, which lasts a few minutes, produces ascending/descending sound waves and aims to “cleanse and regenerate body and soul” through a mixture of calming/awakening that it brings to participants.

Isa*Belle develops her artistic approach for and through the well-being of the body – in its multiple dimensions – associated with personal and spiritual development.

Evolving between Belgium and France, she has been working since 2005 in collaboration with Paradise Now to produce several performances and sound installations supported by Transcultures / City Sonic and broadcast internationally.

She has also collaborated with several musicians (Maurice Charles JJ, Matthieu Safatly, Stephan Dunkelman …) and visual artists (Simone Simon, Joseph Dadoune, Régis Cotentin), created the duet Unda with Ariane Chesaux and joined, in 2015 Werner Moron and Philippe Franck in the audio-poetic combo “Les ours bipolaires”.

Kote (Séoul - Kr) - a cultural space for creators on the border

Kote is a pluridisciplinary project located in an ancient cinema industry building in downtown Seoul’s historic Insa-dong. KOTE hosts various exhibitions, performances, cultural events. It also offers co-working spaces to artists and various other dynamic entities, as well as a cafe and a wine bar.

Various creators interact here, and inspiration collide and create a new culture. It is a space that everyone can enjoy without boundaries of status, nationality or age.

KOTE Arts Festival 2024

To celebrate Frieze Week, the 2024 KOTE Art Festival will be held throughout the entire Haebong Building in Insadong from September 3rd to 7th. Following last year’s Prada Mode, which focused on the historical significance of KOTE and explored film and culture, this year’s festival continues the theme with “Words from the Wind,” the documentary filmed at KOTE by WookHee Cine. The documentary explores the story and impact of legendary songwriter Kim Hee Gap, who defined a generation of popular Korean culture through his work in the 60’s and 70’s. The festival will feature a diverse range of activities, including film, music, media art, traditional Korean music, dance, and DJing, exploring the roots and future of K-Culture.

KOTE aims to connect old and new, tradition and creativity. Its history as a space for multicultural and multidisciplinary exchange is on full view as we bring diverse artists, musicians, historians, filmmakers and communities together for the duration of our Frieze Week event via screenings, performances, seafood sandwiches and other delicious and energetic experiences..
